Messy cake mayhem!😥

Updated: Jul 23, 2020

If you are reading this, you would probably have an idea of what happened. Making cakes aren't as easy as they seem. You need to understand what you put in the cake and how to do it. I would be the first to say that I am still learning and that at the moment, making cakes are definitely not my forte. Though I love the challenge when it comes to making cakes, seeing your own work fail can be really discouraging especially when you are making it for someone and want it to taste and look as amazing as possible!🤩🤩

This weeks cake was a 4 inch, 4 layered matcha cake with swiss meringue buttercream and cream cheese frosting. Sounds simple and typical. I didn't think there would be many problems since I made a mini chocolate cake a few weeks before.

The problem came when I started to assemble the cake. My cream cheese frosting was not stiff enough and started to melt while I was doing the first layer- also known as the crumb coat layer. This made my thin fragile matcha cake layers soggy and caused them to fall apart. I tried to fix it by placing it in the freezer to chill for a while. But the cream cheese was way too soft to frost and thus I decided to redo the entire cake and start from scratch. I was honestly really upset and annoyed with myself. I had wasted one whole cake and needed to spend more time to make another one. With encouragement from my mum, I managed to redo the cake again and completed it on that day itself!

For my second cake, I changed things quite a bit. I used swiss meringue buttercream instead of cream cheese frosting as I knew that it would hold its shape better while frosting the cake. I did, however, use the cream cheese for the piping at the top (didn't want to waste good cream cheese😁).

Overall, I was thankful that I managed to complete the cake and deliver it to a friend:)

Baking lesson:

Making cake it just like pottery. You need to be focused and careful while making it to ensure that everything is precise, even and smooth!

Making this cake reminded me that God is the potter of our lives and created every single one of us.

Secondly, making cakes requires someone to do it and is usually given to a friend to make their day or bless them. When God made us, He gave all of us a purpose in life and wants us to be that blessing to others around us- even our enemies.

" But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you..." Matthew 5:44

Even as we go about our daily lives, I hope that this has encouraged you to open your eyes and ask God who you should pray for or encourage. Times are tough and everyone will need to be encouraged once in a while. Be that light. Be the one who makes that difference in another life with the strength and wisdom of God!
